How to Use Ghost

Your step-by-step guide to becoming invisible and acing your exams.

Set Up Your Brain (On the Web)

First, you need to teach Ghost what you know. This happens on the website.

1. Create a New Project

Go to your Dashboard and click 'New Project'. Give it a name like 'History Final' or 'Calculus Midterm'.

2. Write the AI Instructions

This is super important! Tell the AI who to be. For a math test, you could say: 'You are a math genius. Give me the direct answer. No long explanations.'

3. Upload Your Notes (Optional)

Upload your class notes and textbooks (PDFs). Ghost uses these as an extra source of info to give you even better answers, but it's smart enough to work without them too!

4. Copy Your Project ID

After creating your project, you'll see a unique 'Project ID'. Copy this code. You'll need it for the desktop app.

Unleash the Ghost (On Your Desktop)

Now it's time to use the secret weapon on your Windows computer.

1. Configure the App

Open the Ghost desktop app. Paste your Project ID and log in. Then, check the hotkeys—these are your secret commands!

2. Capture a Question

During your exam, when you see a question, press your 'Capture' hotkey (like Alt+C). This takes a secret screenshot that only Ghost can see.

3. Get the Answer

In seconds, the answer will pop up in a small, see-through window that only you can see. It's invisible to proctoring software!

4. Control the Overlay

Need to hide the answer fast? Press your 'Toggle Visibility' hotkey (like Alt+H). Press it again to show it. Use other hotkeys (like Alt+Up/Down) to scroll if the answer is long.

Chat with Your Ghost

For more complex problems, follow-up questions, or attaching multiple files, the interactive chat overlay is your best friend.

1. Open the Chat Window

Press your 'Chat Overlay' hotkey (like Alt+I) to bring up the full conversational window. It's also invisible to proctoring software!

2. Add Screenshots, Video, or Audio

Use the buttons in the chat window to add screenshots, record your screen, or even record your voice to ask a question.

3. Drag and Adjust Opacity

Click and drag the background of the chat window to move it anywhere on your screen. Use the slider at the bottom to make it more or less transparent.

4. Clear or Hide

Use the 'Clear' button to start a new conversation. You can still use your 'Toggle Visibility' hotkey (Alt+H) to hide and show the chat window instantly.

Master Your Hotkeys

These are your secret commands. Practice them until they feel like second nature.

Alt + C

Takes a secret screenshot of your screen and sends it to the AI for an answer.

Alt + I

Opens the interactive chat overlay for conversations with the AI.

Alt + H

Instantly hides or shows the answer overlay. Perfect for when you need to be extra sneaky.

F2

Open the Settings dialog to change your Project ID, hotkeys, or log in.

Advanced Hotkeys (Batch Processing)

For power users who want to process multiple items at once.

Alt + Q

Adds a screenshot to a batch queue to be processed later.

Alt + A

Adds the last screen recording to the batch queue.

Alt + Z

Processes all items in the batch queue at once. The answers will appear one by one in the overlay.

Alt + X

Clears all items from the batch queue.

Alt + R / Alt + S

Starts and stops a screen recording. The file is saved for you to add to a batch or chat.

Alt + T

Toggles a continuous audio transcription. The text appears in the simple overlay.

The Invisibility Cloak: How Ghost Stays Hidden

Ghost's most important feature is its stealth. Here’s how it works and how you can trust it.

The Magic Trick Explained

Ghost uses a special command in Windows to tell the operating system, "Hey, don't include this window in any screen captures or recordings." This means that when proctoring software like ProctorU, Respondus, Examplify, Proctorio, Honorlock, and others try to take a picture of your screen, our overlay is simply not there. It's like it's wearing an invisibility cloak that only works on cameras.

See for Yourself: Test the Stealth

You don't have to take our word for it. You can easily test Ghost's invisibility yourself with a friend or a second computer.

  1. Download a remote desktop app like AnyDesk or TeamViewer on both your computer and another device (like a friend's laptop or your phone).
  2. Connect to your computer from the other device so you can see your screen remotely.
  3. Open the Ghost desktop app and use a hotkey (like Alt+C) to bring up an answer in the overlay.
  4. Look at your physical screen—you will see the overlay. Now, look at the screen on the remote device—you will see your exam, but the Ghost overlay will be completely invisible.

You're All Set!

That's it! You're ready to use Ghost. Remember to practice with the hotkeys before your exam so it feels natural. Good luck!
